"No paracetamol after vaccination for babies!"

Wow, this is a big news which we just read in BBC Health news online. Here in Malaysia they gave us every time after the vaccines paracetamol to lower the fever. But now it might do more harm than good to give it to babies after the vaccinations!

These are the reasons from a study with 450 babies. Half of them took the paracetamol, half of the group didn't get the paracetamol

• Even with the pain and fever killer paracetamol 42% of the babies who took the medicine had fever with more than 38 Celsius.
  
  
• 66% of the babies who didn't get the paracetamol had also fever with temperatures higher than 38 Celsius
  
  
• But the babies who got the paracetamol developed a lower level of antibodies towards the given vaccines.
  This means in case they would get infected with some of the viruses in the future their immune system wouldn't be able to fight as fast and quick as possible to prevent the illness from breaking out!

Are vaccinations safe or dangerous?

Last week i wrote about the 5-in-1 vaccination for our son Tim.

The reason for this Mega-Vaccination is on the one side that the little babies don't have to go to often to the doctors and get several single injections, on the other side it's a good income for the company who sells this 5-in-1 vaccination because they beat the competitors out of their single injection market.

There are good and bad news for this kind of vaccination. The company who produces this vaccination "forgot" to tell that in their studies severe side effects could appear. They only focused on the argument that it's more efficient for the health care system, babies and parents.

They also mentioned that the virus are now already dead and no more alive like it has been in the past with the oral polio vaccine (Tim got the oral one, so i don't think they gave him the true 5-in-1 vaccination).

Tim showed some side effects like longer crying period, fever and tiredness for around two days.

Second checkup and 5-in-1 vaccination for Tim

Yesterday we went to the clinic for the second month checkup.

Tim gained around 1 kg weight since last month, his weight is now 4,4 kg. He is now 57,5 cm tall. This is an increase of 5 cm from the last checkup on 18th of March 2009.

Since the birth he gained now 1,4 kg and grew 7,5 cm! Luckily it's all in the normal range.

After the checkup, Tim had to get the vaccination. They use a four-in-one jab including vaccine against Triple Antigen (DPT), Hepatitis B (2nd dose) and orally given Polio Vaccine (Hib 1).

As the vaccine has to be injected into the muscles, the nurse had to inject it "deep" into the upper leg.
